Postdoctoral Research Fellowship/Researcher position (Experimental Particle Physics) POSITION AS POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW / RESEARCHER - Experimental Particle Physics in ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is available at The Department of Physics and Technology (www.ift.uib.no), University of Bergen, in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.

The position is funded by The Research Council of Norway under the project CERN-Related High Energy Particle Physics Research.

The selected post-doc or researcher fellow is expected to work within ATLAS which is one of the experiments at CERN's "Large Hadron Collider" (LHC), and analyze the first ultra-Tev high energy collisions data to be collected starting in 2010.

Present research group's activities in ATLAS include:

-monitoring of the Inner Detector (ID) silicon detector system and developement of
    related detector-specific software
-Physics analysis related to
   o extra symmetries (supersymmetry)
   o symmetry breaking (Higgs boson(s))
o top quarks and tau leptons
   o Black hole production
o model-independent searches for new physics with mu+mu-, mu+- mu+ mu- and mu+ mu- mu+ mu- final states
   o   detector validation studies with Z-> mu+mu-, Upsilon -> mu+ mu- and J/psi -> mu+ mu-
- popularization activities (Outreach)
The selected candidate is expected to be strongly analysis oriented and analyze the first data to be
collected by the ATLAS detector. S/He will also take some responsibility for the operation of the
Inner Detector (ID) in general and the Semi Conductor Tracker (SCT) in particular. The candidate should

have or soon expected to receive PhD in particle physics.

The successful candidate should have a solid background in experimental particle physics. Experience
in analysis of experimental data is an advantage. The candidate will strongly interact
with Master and PhD-students and post-doctoral researchers in the group, thus,
collaborative abilities are also important.
